The Ullswater Portrait Project
Gina has been working on a portrait project together with artist Julia Stanton since July 2013 to paint over a 2 year period as many portraits of people who were born between the wars and living in the Ullswater catchment area for 30 years or more. The project includes 2 portrait painters and 3 landscape painters. The project has recently been awarded a generous grant from The Lake District National Park Authority. This has enabled the artists to bring in a local film maker Matt Sharman who won the short film of the year award at Keswick Film Festival. In June 2015 a final exhibition is planned to celebrate the end of the project at Dalemain, Pooley Bridge, Ullswater. This will involve not only the portraits of those people who have had their portraits painted, but will include work and portraits done by the children of Patterdale School together with the landscapes done by Beatrice Hassell McCosh, Pat Cook and Gina. Julia and Gina have painted about 50 portraits each. Their styles are totally different. Julia is a classically trained painter in the style of the old masters. Gina enjoys the story behind the characters she paints and her landscapes creep in behind the portraits in many of her paintings. There will be about 150 paintings on show at the exhibition together with Matts short character and landscape study film of Ullswater.
